Who are we?

Vesta – Specialist Family Support CIC offers specialist support to Polish families in England and Wales affected by domestic abuse, parenting issues and poor mental health.

 

We’re a team of three directors with six accredited bilingual associates who provide qualified, bespoke training and support to Polish people and professionals. We offer remote and one-to-one services to support Polish families when navigating the British social care and justice systems and to cope with domestic abuse, poor mental health and parenting concerns. We are passionate about empowering Polish families to create a safe and nurturing family environment where people can have healthy relationships with each other.

The role of Director is a voluntary position that can be challenging and extremely rewarding. It is an excellent opportunity to build on your personal and professional skills as well as learn new ones in the areas of organisation development, HR, data analysis, communication, and teamwork whilst working with a diverse group of people.

 

In this role, you will develop a good understanding of the third sector, how this affects our clients and how we can support them to give them the best opportunities.  Training and support are available during your time on the board, allowing you to use your knowledge and experience to the full extent.

 

As a Director, you will have a real opportunity to contribute to the strategic development of the organisation and to work closely with your fellow directors to ensure the organisation continues on its journey of innovation and good practice.

Who are looking for?

We expect all our Directors to have the following skills and experience:
 

  • A commitment to Vesta and the time to be an active Director

  • A knowledge of and commitment to the Polish community in England and Wales

  • Have good judgement and be able to offer advice, guidance, and constructively challenge where needed

  • Good communication skills


We are looking for Directors to have one or more of the following skills and experience to add value to the current skills and experience of the Board:

​

Marketing - to have general business development and marketing skills and experience. This could be an individual that has owned and managed a business.

​

Role

  • Lead on developing a Business plan and implementing it

  • Advise the board on business development opportunities

  • Advise the board on the local and wider market

​

Skills

  • Have a good understanding of business development

  • Ability to and willingness to speak their mind 

  • Ability to have innovation

​

​

Finance -  to have experience in finance and, if possible, knowledge of the funding, commissioning/procurement scene.

​

Role

  • Overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts and financial statements

  • Preparing and presenting financial reports to the board of Directors

  • Advising on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic plans

  • Keeping the board informed of financial duties and responsibilities

  • Making a formal presentation of accounts at the Annual General Meeting if required

  • Ensuring appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place

  • Ensuring there is an appropriate and up-to-date reserves policy

  • Ensuring the organisation is in compliance with legislation

  • Ensuring the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by Companies House, funders and investors.

  • Ensuring where external scrutiny of accounts is required, this is carried out appropriately (independent examination or audit), and any recommendations are implemented.

  • Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the organisation

Skills and Experience

​

  • Financial qualifications and experience

  • Skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences

  • Some experience in fundraising, procurement procedure

​

​

Enterprise development - to have knowledge and experience of the field in which the company trades.

​

Role

  • Keep up-to-date on any developments within the trade

  • Keep the board updated on any changes on the horizon

  • Advise the board on strategic business planning and direction with regard to trading

  • Provide guidance on new initiatives and developments

  • Advise the board on any practical issues around production/ delivery

​

Skills

  • Knowledge and experience in the field

  • Passion for the industry

  • Understanding of the industry​

You will receive training in your role as a director, and we will cover your expenses incurred in your duties.
